Jon Mantzisidor Uria

Jon Mantzisidor’s research career is based on the artistic practice that began to develop around the year 2000. The first exhibitions of paintings gradually evolved into installations, videos and intervened objects with a certain conceptual charge. Currently his practice is focused on the performative and sound.

He has published articles in specialized magazines and from 2012 to 2020 he has been part of the research group Ikersoinu of the UPV/EHU dedicated to Sound Art. With this group he has organized several conferences on sound, space and performance, as well as exhibitions and meetings with artists. He is currently a member of the research group Gizaartea UPV/EHU.

At the same time, he has worked as an illustrator and comic artist in printed media in the Basque Country. This semi-professional activity was developed in the newspapers Euskaldunon Egunkaria, Berria and Zabalik and in the magazines Aizu!, The Balde, Nabarra, Baleike, etc.

He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the EHU-UPV, 1996. PhD with the thesis Conceptual and performative practices in the scene of Free Improvisation defended in 2013.

He currently teaches at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Leioa, UPV/EHU, in the Department of Drawing, being Associate Professor since 2022.

Today he continues with his training through different courses and seminars, as well as with the development of his artistic practice that has been seen in spaces such as Festival Eztena, Errenteria (2023), Palacio Condestable, Iruñea (2022), Tabakalera, Donostia (2021), Arriaga Antzokia, Bilbao (2020), Galería Aire, Bilbao (2019), Espacio Cruce, Madrid (2018), La Canibal, Barcelona (2017), Ecuries de Baroja, Anglet , France (2017), Malaga Film Festival (2015), Anciens Abbatories, Billere, France (2009), Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (2007), Platform Garanti Art Center, Istanbul (2006), Frontera Corozal, Mexico (2006), Montehermoso, Gasteiz (2005), Galleria Paolo Boselli, Brussels (2003), etc.
